Run for resilience ostomy 5K

The Central Alabama WOC Nurses' Association organized the state's first ever Run for Resilience: Ostomy 5K in 2016. Since then, the race has tripled in participation since the inaugural year as of 2018.

All proceeds from Run for Resilience goes to the United Ostomy Associations of America. This organization is special the Central Alabama WOC Nurses' Association as it provides education and assistance to countless numbers of ostomates and families each year.

The race is held annually in October and is centered around Worldwide Ostomy Awareness Day.

Please check back for more information or contact us if you would like to participate or volunteer for our next race!

project homeless connect

Project Homeless Connect is an annual day of services held in one place with one goal: to break down the barriers to safe, decent, affordable housing. In partnership with the City of Birmingham, the United Way of Central Alabama, and Hands On Birmingham, One Roof collaborates with over 60 agencies to offer services ranging from legal services to state ID cards to medical care, among many others. Providing these services in one place, at no cost to PHC guests, makes them much more accessible to the men, women, and children experiencing homelessness in greater Birmingham.

The Central Alabama WOC Nurses' Association participates to provide foot care services at this event.

The Hope Lodge

The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers. More than just a roof over their heads, it's a nurturing community that helps patients access the care they need. Each Hope Lodge community offers a supportive, homelike environment where guests can share a meal, join in the evening's activities, or unwind in their own private room. Patients staying at a Hope Lodge must be in active cancer treatment, and permanently reside more than 40 miles or one hour away from their cancer treatment center. Each patient must be accompanied by a caregiver

Charities Close to Our Heart

The Grace House

For over 25 years, Grace House has been providing stable, Christian homes for Alabama girls in foster care on our residential campus in Fairfield, AL.

Grace House's comprehensive approach seeks to end the cycles of poverty and abuse that are so prevalent in the lives of the girls that we serve by educating, equipping, and empowering them to become mature, Godly women.

Children's Village

Children’s Village, Inc. provides a home that allows our children to grow and develop in all areas of their lives. We provide a “family unit” for children that have been orphaned, abused, neglected or have broken family relationships. This is accomplished by providing them with unconditional love, a spiritual foundation and positive parental guidance. Educational and enrichment programs are provided, and we encourage positive social relationships and community activities.
